What does a relaxing weekend actually look like?
The Story
Where: A weekend away – a boutique hotel, warm lamps, a room with a private balcony overlooking beautiful fields
Who: Her and her dogs
When: A weekend morning, maybe Saturday. Relaxing, no alarm, no schedule!
The brief was ‘morning rituals’. I developed it into ‘relaxing weekend’ because for me that is where the real ritual lives. Not the rushed coffee before the school run but the occasion where time is not being sacrificed…nothing needs to happen next!

So I created one. A magazine, not a TV screen, juice being poured slowly. Waffles with a sprinkle of icing sugar and a drizzle of syrup. Gorgeous rays of light streaming through the windows.
That pace was the thinking behind this shoot – a morning with nothing factored in, held together by small details, not just the location.

Of course, mornings for some people means the whole family – including of course the dogs! These ones were integral to this shoot – they loved it…especially being allowed on the bed!

Behind the Scenes
With one exception, every image here was shot with artificial light making sure to create that warmth across the set of images.
The balcony image is the only frame lit naturally with the morning sun coming straight through the railings. In that frame, the composition was important – allowing for the dog to play a starring role!

If this is the kind of relaxed, easy elegance you want your brand to feel like, get in touch and let’s talk!
On a completely different note, I have launched The Spice Line on Substack, where I’m going to be working through food memories and family recipes as well as the history of Sri Lanka, all from my perspective. It’s a different side of what I do but it’s close to my heart. Head over and let me know what you think!
